The Record
The San Joaquin County Office of Education has promoted administrator Jane Steinkamp to assistant superintendent of educational services.
Steinkamp, previously the office's division director of operations, is accepting the post after the Office of Education had hired Escalon Unified Superintendent Ron Costa to fill the role. Costa decided after his hiring was announced in January to stay at Escalon. Steinkamp has 20 years of experience as an educator, including 10 years as an assistant superintendent at the Linden Unified School District. She has served as a principal at several elementary schools in the Tracy area and also was an English teacher.
"I am excited to have Jane join our team. Her depth and breadth of educational experience will be a great addition," San Joaquin County Superintendent of Schools Mick Founts said in a written statement.
The assistant superintendent of educational services position was last held by Gary Dei Rossi, who recently retired. It is described as a multilevel position that oversees curriculum throughout county programs, works with low-performing schools and migrant education, and oversees student activities such as the spelling bee and Science Olympiad. Steinkamp also be a liaison between the county and state for a variety of programs.
